Ghana Free Zones Authority organized breast cancer awareness for Ga East community


The Ga East Municipal Assembly's , together with Chief Executive Officer for Ghana free zones authority, Ambassador.Michael Oquaye jnr has launched this year’s edition of the Breast Cancer Awareness initiative on Wednesday, 9 October, 2024 in an effort to recognize the Breast Awareness Month and also, raise awareness in relation to the Breast Cancer disease.



Speaking in an interview Hon.Deborah Ampofo, Municipal Chief executive,Ga East acknowledged the ladies gathered and further advised them to take charge of their own health by keeping a close eye on their body changes and also, adhere to eat right. 

She added that, early screening the breasts can help in detection in order to address such issues. Also a healthy body goes with a healthy work hence the ladies should not be ashamed to ask for assistance if they ever needed it.


Furthermore ,The  Chief Executive Officer for Ghana free zones authority, Ambassador.Michael Oquaye jnr. Disclosed that Ghana free zones authority, is also concerned about health issues especially with women concerning breast cancer therefore this initiative is great. 


He revealed that over the past three years five thousand women have been screened leading to detection of 16 breast cancer patients and four death.


Mr. OQuaye advised that Early detection is key because If breast cancer is found early, there are more treatment options and a better chance for survival. 



Women from community and the surrounding communities participated in the launch of breasts cancer screening at haatso plaza . The attendees were educated by the health officials of the Health Directorate on the risks associated with the disease , as well as its early detection and prevention..


The beneficiaries who were screened speaking to the media urged all women to take advantage of the chance to screen for the disease.


 Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international health campaign that’s held every October. 


The month aims to promote screening and prevention of the disease, which affects 2.3 million women worldwide. 


The breasts cancer awareness month is Known best for its pink theme color, the month features a number of campaigns and programs conducted by groups ranging from breast cancer advocacy organizations to local community organizations to major retailers — aimed at: supporting people diagnosed with breast cancer, including those with metastatic breast cancer educating people about breast cancer risk factors encouraging women to go for regular breast cancer screening starting at age 40 or earlier, depending on personal breast cancer risk.
