GHANA GOV'T LAUNCHES SKILLS FOR JOB PROJECT TO CREATE MORE EMPLOYMENT

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP),Mr.Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has underscored the critical role of youth entrepreneurship in solving real-world problems and creating employment opportunities in Ghana.

Speaking at the launch of the Skills for Job Project at the Accra Digital Centre on October 17, 2024, Nkansah emphasized the substantial impact of the government’s interventions in empowering young Ghanaians.

“Millions of young people have received training in various sectors, and some have been given support services. These interventions have created a lot of alternative employment opportunities for the youth of Ghana,” he stated.

Nkansah explained that job creation goes beyond formal sector jobs, with the NEIP focusing on supporting startups and small businesses. “When we talk about job creation, it is not just the jobs that we get on the controller payroll or in the formal sector. The interventions we are doing through the startup and SME support have given back in the form of job creation by these entrepreneurs and the additional value-added jobs that are also good for other young people.”

Since 2017, nearly two million youth have been empowered under the current administration, he revealed. NEIP, as the government’s flagship agency for providing integrated national support for startups and small businesses, believes that youth entrepreneurship is key to unlocking the potential of young people.
