La Nkwantanang Celebrates homowo festival


The La Nkwantanang community has organized it homowo cultural festival aim at celebrating Ghanaians rich culture heritage and a call for unity within the community.


The festival provides the platform for cultural groups and other people from the community to showcase various aspect of their culture.


Day one saw the La Nkwantanang-embarkimg on a float through the principal streets of the Municipality, which was followed by cultural displays by group who entertained the audience.


Speaking in an interview the Chief executive officer for la nkwantanang divisional council Nicholas Nii kwe Ashi disclosed that the second day, would feature a Gala match among the neighbouring communities .



Mr Nicholas added that the gathering would emphasise the significance of embracing and preserving the Ghanaian culture.


Also there will be some activities like street canival, thanks giving service and He further urged Ghanaians to champion peace and refrain from any activities that would cause violence in the upcoming elections.


Ernest Abbey one of the organisers also added that this year's celebration has a different dimension compared to last and this to create unity and togetherness through the activities. 



La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2131 and inaugurated in June 2012. It was carved out of the Ga East Municipality. Its capital is located at Madina, a bustling mix of commercial and residential area.

 


La Nkwantanang Festival, popularly known as 'Homofest,' is a vibrant traditional celebration of Homowo, unique to the Nkwantanang people hailing from La in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.


This festival holds significant cultural and historical importance including street carnival among others.
