NHIA Chief Backs Ghana’s Arm Wrestling Stars with Long-Term Development Plans
Speaking at a recent engagement with the Ghana Arm Wrestling Federation (GAF), Dr. Okoe Boye praised the team’s dedication, resilience, and impressive performance on the African and global stage. He emphasized that his support would go beyond short-term sponsorship, focusing instead on building structures that ensure continuous talent development and international competitiveness.
“Arm wrestling has proven to be one of the fastest-growing sports in Ghana, and our athletes have brought us immense pride,” Dr. Okoe Boye stated. “We must give them the resources, exposure, and welfare they deserve, so they can dominate not just in Africa but on the world stage.”
President of the Ghana Arm Wrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, welcomed the NHIA Boss’s pledge, describing it as a “game-changer” for the sport’s growth in Ghana. He noted that the Golden Arms have already positioned Ghana as a powerhouse in Africa, winning multiple medals in continental championships.
The partnership is expected to cover athlete welfare, training facilities, medical support, and international tournament participation — key pillars in preparing Ghana’s arm wrestling stars for sustained success.
With arm wrestling’s popularity surging among Ghanaian youth, stakeholders believe this long-term backing could cement the nation’s dominance in the sport for years to come.
