Startup Discovery Africa Champions Climate Innovation

Startup Discovery Africa has officially launched the second edition of its Climate Championship Competition, a flagship initiative designed to identify, nurture, and accelerate groundbreaking climate innovations across the continent.
By providing essential coaching, mentorship, and equity-free funding, the program empowers early-stage entrepreneurs to scale their environmental solutions and drive measurable impacts in their local communities.
The Six-Month Venture Building Journey
Speaking to the media, Natasha Dadsie, Senior Program Manager for Africa at Startup Discovery Africa, highlighted the rigorous selection process driving the initiative.
Out of 20 high-potential businesses enrolled in the organization's comprehensive venture-building program, 12 finalists were selected to undergo an intensive six-month product development phase.
"Our focus at Startup Discovery Africa is to actively mitigate the impacts of climate change across the continent," Dadsie stated.
"We have worked closely with 100 founders across Ghana to tackle these environmental challenges. Our immediate goal is to expand this footprint to cover the entire West African sub-region within the next six months."

The ongoing competition features a structured prize pool to inject immediate capital into the winning green startups:

Grand Winner GH₵ 30,000 Access to partner networks, global investor matching, and ongoing technical support.
First Runner-Up GH₵ 15,000 Access to partner networks and ongoing technical support.
Second Runner-Up GH₵ 5,000
Dadsie emphasized that the monetary awards are just the beginning. Beyond the financial injection, the organization’s strategic partners are offering long-term, high-value opportunities to ensure the startups remain sustainable and scalable.
Aligning with National and Global Policy
To maximize the longevity of these climate solutions, Startup Discovery Africa is intentionally aligning its initiatives with broader economic and environmental policies.
The organization is currently working closely with stakeholders and actively integrating its framework with the Government of Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Policy.
This collaboration aims to ensure that green businesses can operate efficiently around the clock, amplifying their contribution to the global fight against climate change.
For the participating entrepreneurs, the competition has been a transformative experience. Several contestants shared that the intensive coaching has fundamentally reshaped their "Theory of Change",sharpening how they measure, understand, and deliver tangible social and environmental benefits to their communities.
With West African expansion on the horizon, Startup Discovery Africa is proving that the intersection of local innovation and structured corporate support is key to building a resilient, sustainable future for the continent.
