AF Lucky 3 CEO Urges Government urgent action Over Tema Port Congestion

TEMA, Ghana — The Chief Executive Officer of AF Lucky 3 Limited, Mr. Fiifi Agyekum, has issued an urgent appeal to government authorities and MSC Shipping Line to see into severe offloading delays of trucks with containers at the Tema Port.

According to Mr. Agyekum, over 500 cargo trucks have been stranded in long queues for roughly five days waiting to discharge containers. 




He noted that the gridlock is causing substantial financial losses for businesses, while port capacity constraints continue to exacerbate the backlog.


"For about five days, all our trucks have been stuck in a long queue at Tema Port. As a company, this delay has really cost us a lot," Mr. Agyekum stated.




Beyond the commercial impact, the delays are creating severe welfare issues for drivers forced to sleep in their vehicles for days, away from their families. 




Furthermore, the buildup of heavy vehicles along the Sakumono–Tema road has triggered significant traffic congestion, sparking frustration among local residents and commuters.


In response, drivers have voiced their frustration over the grueling conditions, echoing calls for immediate action. Mr. Agyekum is urging port authorities and MSC responsible for this to urgently expand container offloading space to clear the traffic bottleneck and restore normal operation
