Breast Society of Ghana Hosts Annual Scientific Meeting to Bridge Breast Cancer Care Gap

ACCRA, Ghana — The Breast Society of Ghana recently convened its Annual General Scientific Meeting to align key stakeholders on expanding local access to early detection and treatment for breast cancer.


Operating under the theme, "Bridging the Breast Cancer Care Gap for Everyone, Every Step, Everywhere," the conference focused on removing healthcare barriers and ensuring early intervention reaches women across all regions of Ghana.


Speaking on behalf of First Lady Mrs.Lordina Mahama , Hon. Shamima Muslim emphasized that accessible healthcare is a fundamental right.

She highlighted that early diagnosis remains the primary defense against late-stage presentation and urged healthcare professionals to continuously update their clinical knowledge to support nationwide free screening initiatives.


Addressing policymakers and health agencies—including the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA)—Muslim called for enhanced monitoring of care outcomes and targeted policy interventions to eliminate financial barriers for patients. 


She framed healthcare accessibility as a core issue of gender equity and human dignity, reaffirming the government's commitment to supporting breast cancer initiatives.




Prof. Josephine Nsafoa, President of the Breast Society of Ghana, acknowledged that while the country possesses the clinical capacity to treat breast cancer, distribution and accessibility challenges persist.
