Ghana Christian University College Graduates 111 in Law and Counselling to Tackle Mental Health and Promote Justice

Ghana Christian University College (GHACU) has held its 5th graduation ceremony for students completing certificate programs in Counselling and Law, urging new practitioners to apply their skills toward national transformation and mental health advocacy.


The ceremony was centered on the theme: "Healing Minds, Upholding Justice, Changing Ghana Through Compassionate Counselling and Courage in Law."




A total of 111 students graduated during the congregation, comprising 66 from the Counselling program and 45 from the Law program.

Speaking to journalists at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Mental Health Authority (MHA), Dr. Eugene Kobla Dordoye, highlighted the critical timing of the graduation.

He emphasized that training individuals in law and psychological support equips them to handle complex mental health challenges facing modern society.


Dr. Dordoye noted that emerging behavioral issues—including phone addiction, substance abuse, and compulsive gambling—require professionally trained counsellors to help individuals recover and contribute meaningfully to socio-economic growth.


"The focus of this certification is to prepare these graduates to handle mental health challenges effectively out in the world, enabling individuals to recover and make positive contributions to society," Dr. Dordoye stated, urging the graduands to actively deploy their knowledge to influence their communities.


Upholding Core Values and National Discipline

Addressing the gathering, the Dean of the School of Theology, Media, and Health Sciences (SDMHS) at GHACU, Rev. Francis Asante, commended the Mental Health Authority for its collaboration and congratulated the graduating cohort.

Rev. Asante stressed that professional competence must be grounded in moral discipline, reminding the new cohort of GHACU’s foundational values of Truth and Integrity.


Beyond academic achievements, Rev. Asante linked Christian character to broader civic responsibilities, pointing out that national issues—such as environmental degradation and recurring urban flooding—stem from a lapse in collective discipline and character. 


He called for a fundamental mindset shift among Ghanaians to foster sustainable national development.


Graduands Express Optimism and Commitment




Exuding excitement and relief upon completing their courses, several graduands pledged to lead positive change in their respective fields. 




They expressed readiness to tackle social injustices, offer empathetic psychological support, and contribute to national progress through their newly acquired expertise. ‎
