In the wake of recent severe flooding across Accra, China Mall has collaborated with the Ga West Municipal Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to provide relief items to affected residents within the Amasaman Constituency.
As part of the joint relief initiative, China Mall presented 250 packs of rice and cooking oil to 250 impacted individuals out of an estimated 5,000 victims recorded across the municipality.
Speaking during the presentation, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga West, Hon. John Desmond Sowah Nai, highlighted ongoing national recovery efforts following directives issued by President John Dramani Mahama.
He noted that while government provisions have been deployed to assist affected households and clear drainage pathways, additional support remains crucial due to the scale of the disaster.
"The government has initiated relief distributions and environmental cleanup exercises, but the magnitude of the impact requires collective action. We deeply appreciate corporate partners stepping in to bridge the gap," the MCE stated.
Corporate Responsibility and Social Impact
Explaining the motivation behind the donation, representatives from China Mall emphasized the company's commitment to supporting government relief efforts and easing the emotional and financial burden on displaced families.
The intervention aims to cushion victims against the trauma and immediate hardship caused by the torrential rains.
Hon. Sowah Nai extended a call to other corporate organizations, civil society groups, and benevolent individuals to contribute toward the ongoing relief operations.
Commitment to Long-Term Flood Mitigation
Reassuring residents, the Ga West Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to implementing robust measures aimed at preventing future flood disasters within the Amasaman Constituency to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and property.
Receiving the donations, several beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation to China Mall, NADMO, and the Municipal Assembly, noting that the relief items would significantly relieve household pressure during this challenging period.
