Alliance of Christian Apologists Ghana Demands Accountability and Due Process Over Pastor Daniel Agyei's Detention
Story by Azaglo Michael
ACCRA, Ghana — The Alliance of Christian Apologists Ghana has called for absolute transparency, justice, and accountability following the second arrest and detention of Pastor Daniel Agyei.
Addressing a press conference under the theme “Pastor Daniel Agyei’s Second Arrest: Calling for Clarity, Justice, and Accountability,” Reverend Kwabena Agyapong, Chairman of the Alliance, strongly emphasized the historical contributions of Christian missionary institutions and worldviews to civil society in Ghana.
Reverend Agyapong asserted that the Christian community offers no apologies for its foundational impact, while firmly upholding Ghana's status as a pluralistic constitutional republic.
"Ghana belongs to all citizens—Christians, Muslims, and adherents of traditional religions alike. Everyone has the freedom to practice their beliefs because Ghana is a constitutional republic," Reverend Agyapong stated.
Defense of Constitutional Order
The Alliance underscored that its primary concern is safeguarding Ghana's constitutional order and ensuring the equal application of the law.
Reverend Agyapong stressed that no religious body should be permitted to replace or override the nation's legal framework, maintaining that ideological and religious differences must be addressed strictly through lawful means, scholarship, and public debate.
"Religious critique should never be conflated with criminality, and the relevant authorities must answer critical questions regarding this case," he added.
Allegations of Custodial Assault and Police Scrutiny
A central focus of the press briefing was the demand for a public explanation from the Ghana Police Service regarding security protocols while Pastor Agyei—referred to in official contexts as Apostle Daniel Junior Yeboah Adjei—was in custody.
The Alliance raised serious concerns regarding a statement attributed to Sheikh Moshud Abdulai concerning an alleged insult directed at the Prophet Muhammad and Islamic beliefs.
The group questioned the circumstances surrounding the involvement of Apostle Daniel Junior Yeboah Adjei during his detention.
Furthermore, the Alliance formally demanded answers regarding allegations that the pastor was physically assaulted while in police custody. According to the leadership, the assault was allegedly perpetrated by a civilian identified as Alhaji Simbame Sakariyaw, popularly known as "Alhaji Papa Angola."
The Alliance concluded by reiterating that the Ghanaian public deserves full transparency from law enforcement agencies to ensure that individual rights, constitutional protections, and personal safety are rigorously upheld within the justice system.
