ACCRA, Ghana — Fraud prevention leaders from across the continent gathered in Ghana for the African Fraud Stakeholders Dialogue (AFSD) 2026, issuing a unified call to action against rising financial crimes under the theme "Mobilizing Collective Action Against Fraud."

Opening the landmark event, Isaac Obour, President of the Anti-Fraud Initiative Ghana (AFIG), stressed that African nations must elevate their approach to combating fraud.

He emphasized that siloed efforts are no longer enough, urging stakeholders to engage relevant authorities and establish robust data-sharing frameworks to preemptively intercept fraudulent activities.

"We need to take the conversation on fraud to the next level—both in Ghana and across the wider African continent—by forging strategic partnerships and sharing critical data," Obour stated.

Echoing these sentiments, Mr. Patrick Yankey, Head of Intelligence at the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO Ghana), underscored the importance of institutional synergy. He called for intensified cooperation among investigative bodies to shut down loopholes exploited by criminal networks.

At the same time, Yankey reminded the general public that individual vigilance remains a crucial frontline defense against sophisticated fraud schemes.

The dialogue continues to draw key players from law enforcement, regulatory bodies, and the private sector as they chart a secure, collaborative path forward for Africa's digital and financial ecosystems.
