MADINA CONSTITUENCY PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE ARRESTED, DETAINED

Honorable Awal Mohammed, the independent parliamentary candidate for Madina Constituency, has been arrested and detained by the Madina Police Command. The arrest, allegedly orchestrated by leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Madina Constituency, including few national executives and Member of Parliament, Francis-Xavier Sosu, stems from Hon Awal Mohammed campaigning for himself and former President John Mahama's.

Supporters and lawyers for Awal Mohammed have been demanding his release, citing unlawful detention. However, the Adenta Circuit Court ordered the defense to provide additional sureties, postponing the case until Friday.

Despite appearing before the court today with the required sureties, Awal Mohammed remains in custody, sparking outrage among his supporters.

"This is a clear case of political intimidation and abuse of power," said a spokeperson for Awal Mohammed's campaign. "We will not be silenced or deterred." The supporters of Hon Awal Muhammed said they are surprised that a human right lawyer will want his fellow constituent to remain in detention over campaigning for himself and a preferred presidential candidate. What kind of human right lawyer is this? They ask.

The incident has raised concerns about the integrity of Ghana's electoral process and the rights of independent candidates.
