Gospel in the Bar: A Vision of Redemption and Transformation

Rev.Ndiuwem Utuk, Founder Gospel in the bar

Ndiuwem Utuk has been significantly recognized as the first in the history to initiate the idea of gospel in the bar across the globe.

According to Rev.Ndiuwem Utuk in his exclusive interview with Nation 1 News he established on why he embark on this vision of soul winning in the bar across the Nation which calls for emergency approach .

"The call to serve God is not always a straight path, and for me, it certainly wasn’t. But by His grace, I have walked a journey filled with purpose and divine direction, which has now brought me to a place where my vision for spreading the Gospel is clearer than ever".

"My name is Ndiuwem Utuk, born in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria studied accounting and worked in the banking industry for six years before transitioning to a zonal accountant role at a publication company for another seven years. Yet, throughout all of this, a deep calling from God was stirring within me, though I hesitated to embrace it fully"he stated.

"The moment I first heard the call of God was when I was just 20 years old. At that age, I had no clear understanding of what He wanted from me, and I struggled with the weight of it. But as life moved on, I began to realize that the purpose God had for me was far beyond any career or material success. The true calling I had been avoiding became undeniable".

"The turning point came in February 2023. I had received a clear instruction from God to move to Ghana, and I knew I could not delay this call any longer. A fresh beginning was on the horizon, and this led me to complete my Bible College training in April 2024, solidifying my purpose as a servant of Christ".

However, this story of transformation and redemption began years earlier. The vision for what is now known as "Gospel in the Bar" was birthed on my birthday, December 26, 2014, upon returning from my youth service in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. The idea of spreading the Gospel in unconventional spaces, particularly bars, lounges, and pubs, seemed unlikely to most, but to me, it felt like God was calling me to meet people where they were—not just in the church, but in the very places where they sought refuge and release.

For years, this vision remained an internal fire, propelling me forward as I sought to reach those who were often overlooked by traditional evangelism. Over time, the mission grew beyond me, touching many lives. I began to see souls won for Christ, talents nurtured, and people finding purpose and fulfillment. Most notably, many individuals who were once battling with suicidal thoughts and a lack of direction in life began to experience a transformation. Through this vision, we were not just spreading the Gospel, but offering real hope and a meaningful life in Christ.

In 2025, with the vision unfolding in greater clarity, we established "Gospel in the Bar Foundation" in Accra, Ghana, as a faith-based initiative. The foundation is dedicated to spreading the message of Jesus Christ in unconventional spaces where people gather to relax, socialize, and escape the pressures of life. We leverage the power of music, art, and performance as tools of evangelism. By engaging with individuals in familiar, everyday environments—such as bars, pubs, lounges, and even on beaches—we meet them where they are, showing them the unconditional love of Christ.

"The impact has been profound. Through music and art, we’ve been able to reach people who might otherwise never step foot in a church. We’ve witnessed lives change, and hearts turn to God, all while providing a safe space for individuals to experience both spiritual and emotional healing. People have walked away from destructive lifestyles, rediscovered their value, and embraced their God-given purpose".

"As we continue this journey, our vision grows ever more expansive. What started as a small, God-given idea has transformed into a movement of redemption and hope. In every event, in every interaction, we are reminded of the power of the Gospel and the undeniable fact that Christ’s love transcends all boundaries. Through "Gospel in the Bar," we show that no one is too far gone to receive God’s grace. There are no walls, no limits to where the Gospel can go".

Today, as the founder of "Gospel in the Bar Foundation," I am humbled by all that has been accomplished through this vision. We are working with people from diverse backgrounds, helping them harness their talents, find their purpose, and walk in the fullness of life that God promises. We are creating a space for people to belong, to heal, and to thrive—just as God has called us to do.

Our work which started in Nigeria 12yrs ago continues to flourish in Accra, Ghana, and we believe it will reach even more corners of the globe. As we continue to live out our mission, we ask for your support and prayers. This journey is not one I take alone, but with the help of many who believe in this vision and the power of God’s love.

The Gospel has the power to transform every life, and it’s our responsibility to spread that message wherever we can—whether in a church, on the streets, or in a bar.

To God be the glory, and may His work continue to shine in the most unexpected places.
