"A 24-Hour Economy is the Lifeline of a Thriving Nation" – Austin A. Gamey
Renowned labour consultant and Chief Executive Officer of Gamey and Gamey Group, Mr. Austin A. Gamey, has strongly advocated for the implementation of a 24-hour economy in Ghana. Speaking at a two-day Labour Law Forum held to equip both employers and employees with critical workplace knowledge, Mr. Gamey emphasized the urgent need for Ghana to transition to a round-the-clock economic model.
Addressing members of the media during the event, Mr. Gamey described knowledge as the cornerstone of productivity in any business environment.

He stressed that labour laws should be understood not merely as regulatory tools, but as forms of social legislation aimed at fostering collaboration between employers and employees. According to him, when workers are well-informed about their roles and responsibilities, productivity targets become more achievable, ultimately benefitting both businesses and the broader economy.
Mr. Gamey also underscored the importance of fair remuneration, urging employers to pay their workers well to guarantee high performance and avoid feelings of exploitation among the workforce. "When workers are treated fairly, they go the extra mile, and this directly contributes to business sustainability and profitability," he stated.
In a bold call to action, Mr. Gamey urged lawmakers in Ghana to strengthen the 24-hour economy policy initiative through effective regulations rather than frequent amendments. He believes a stable and regulated framework will better support the vision and scalability of the policy.
“Any nation that doesn't operate with a 24-hour economy policy is a dead nation,” he declared, stressing that round-the-clock economic activity is essential to national development.
Mr. Gamey also threw his weight behind the industrial policy proposed by former President John Dramani Mahama, describing it as a significant and serious initiative that Ghanaians must support.
“It’s a welcome development for Ghanaians, and they shall see the results soon,” he concluded.
The Labour Law Forum served as a pivotal platform for dialogue on labour-related challenges and practical solutions, reinforcing the importance of knowledge sharing in building a resilient and productive workforce
