Ghana Hosts Historic Youth Adaptation Forum in Partnership with Global Center on Adaptation


In a groundbreaking event, the Ghana Youth Environmental Movement in collaboration with the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) held Africa’s first-ever Youth Adaptation Forum in Accra. 



The forum brought together young leaders, policymakers, and civil society organizations to champion climate adaptation efforts across the continent.

Adriana Valenzuela, Youth Leadership Lead at the GCA, emphasized in an interview with the press that Africa boasts the youngest population globally,and that this demographic represents the continent's greatest asset in driving transformational change.



 “Young people are the game changers in Africa’s development through innovative adaptation solutions,” she said.


Valenzuela further noted that the forum aims to empower Ghanaian youth with the knowledge and tools needed to exchange best practices and showcase scalable adaptation strategies.


 “Ghana has been a champion in integrating climate change education into the national curriculum, focusing on youth inclusion through strategic partnerships,” she added.




She also highlighted the urgent need to harness climate resilience as a pathway for job creation and sustainable development. According to Valenzuela, unlocking these opportunities requires deliberate investment and partnerships in climate change education and action.

Representing the Office of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, administrator Ruth Dzokoto reaffirmed the government's commitment to youth participation in climate policy. Speaking on behalf of the Minister, Dzokoto emphasized the importance of innovative approaches to integrating young people in decision-making processes. “The Ministry is working closely with civil society organizations to create space for youth engagement in climate governance, helping to bridge gaps in climate education,” she stated.


She concluded with a strong call for collaboration, announcing that the Ministry looks forward to engaging all CSOs in Ghana to collectively address climate challenges and amplify the role of youth in building a sustainable future.
