Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Lead Consultant of GNAFF, Mr. Francis Opai Tetteh, emphasized the devastating impact of galamsey operations on local agriculture. “We want the Ghana government to give us the mandate to take back the lands that have been forcefully taken from us by the galamsey community,” he stated.
Mr. Tetteh expressed deep concern over how illegal miners have unfairly encroached upon farmlands, destroying valuable agricultural property and livelihoods. “Over the years, the galamsey community has not been fair to Ghanaian farmers. They forcibly claim our lands and use them for illegal mining, leaving destruction behind,” he added.
Reaffirming GNAFF’s independence, Mr. Tetteh stated that the association will remain non-partisan to preserve its autonomy and focus. “We will not align with any political party. Our priority is to safeguard the interests of our members without external political interference.”
He also announced plans to review and amend GNAFF’s constitution to ensure the strategic election of competent leadership across all regions. “This is essential to stabilize the operations and fulfill the core needs of the association,” he explained.

Adding to the discussion, Mr. Abraham Dwuma Oduom, an Agribusiness Consultant for GNAFF, highlighted the broader implications of the issue. He stressed that Ghana’s food security is threatened by the lack of a unified voice among farmers, which has contributed to the heavy reliance on imported food. “The high rate of food importation has exposed the country to various health risks. A united front among Ghanaian farmers is essential to reverse this trend,” he noted.
GNAFF’s strong stance marks a critical moment in the national dialogue on environmental preservation, food security, and the empowerment of local farmers. The association is urging both government and civil society to support its cause in restoring agricultural lands and securing Ghana’s future.
