Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will reignite Ghana’s most storied rivalry in the 10th President’s Cup at Accra Sports Stadium on 6 July 2025.
The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) on Thursday officially launched the 2025 President’s Cup, confirming that traditional powerhouses Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will meet on Sunday, 6 July at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Now in its 10th edition, the one‑off fixture has grown from a ceremonial friendly into a fiercely coveted trophy that celebrates national unity and sporting excellence while honouring Ghana’s sitting President. This year’s match will be held in tribute to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama.
Launching the event on behalf of the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Williams Quartey pledged the ministry’s full backing:
“The Minister is determined to restore Ghana football to its former glory and ensure the President’s Cup enjoys the prestige it deserves. A dedicated planning committee has already been inaugurated to deliver a world‑class spectacle,” he said.
In a move designed to pack the stands, GHALCA announced that general admission will be free, with tickets required only for the VIP and VVIP sections. Organisers hope the initiative will replicate last year’s vibrant atmosphere, when Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas featured as special guests.
Although ceremonial in origin, the President’s Cup routinely produces high‑octane football, with Hearts and Kotoko meeting in six of the previous nine editions. Both clubs will view the tie as an early psychological marker ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
