GAYO Hosts Stakeholder Forum on Just Transition and NDC 3.0
The Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) has hosted a high-level stakeholder engagement forum aimed at promoting inclusive dialogue on Ghana’s ongoing efforts toward a just transition and the upcoming Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0 framework.
Held in Accra, the forum convened key partners, civil society actors, and youth voices to discuss the intersection of climate policy, economic equity, and sustainable development with a focus on those most impacted, including workers in the mining sector, youth, and communities in vulnerable regions.
Delivering the keynote address, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Development, Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, emphasized government’s commitment to a low-carbon, inclusive economy.
“We must transition in a way that leaves no one behind. The green economy should not only protect the environment but also generate decent jobs and support vulnerable communities,” he stated.
He reiterated the importance of social dialogue, innovation, and green job creation through the National Green Jobs Strategy and the Ghana-EU Pact for Skills project, which are laying the foundation for sustainable economic transformation.
Mrs. Betty Edjei, Director of Programs at GAYO, highlighted the organization’s dedication to amplifying community and youth voices in climate policymaking.
“Our goal is to ensure NDC 3.0 reflects the realities on the ground and includes clear pathways to justice and equity,” she said.
NDC 3.0 is expected to be submitted in September as part of Ghana’s ongoing commitment to the Paris Agreement and the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
