‎Ghana’s Vice President Urges Shift Toward a Democracy That Puts Food on the Table

‎In a powerful appeal to reshape the nation’s governance priorities, Ghana’s Vice President ,H.E.Jane Opoku Agyeman has called for a democracy that goes beyond the routine of elections to deliver tangible benefits for citizens. Speaking at a public forum in Accra, the Vice President stressed that the true measure of democracy is not merely the ability to cast a ballot, but the capacity of leaders to ensure economic stability, food security, and improved livelihoods.

‎“Our democracy must feed our people, not just engage them in voting every four years,” he stated, urging policymakers to bridge the gap between political promises and the everyday needs of the population. He emphasized that governance should focus on creating sustainable jobs, improving agricultural output, and ensuring that economic growth directly translates into household well-being.

‎The Vice President’s remarks come amid growing public debate about the effectiveness of democratic institutions in addressing the cost-of-living crisis and unemployment challenges. Analysts say his call could signal a push for policy reforms aimed at making democracy more responsive to Ghana’s socio-economic realities.
