CPMR Marks 50 Years of Plant Medicine Innovation with New Logo Unveiling

The Centre for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR) has officially launched its 50th anniversary celebrations in Accra, unveiling a new logo under the theme “Health and Wealth Power of Plants: Five Decades of Innovation in Plant Medicine Research and Development.”
Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Director of CPMR, Prof. Alex Asase, described the golden jubilee as a historic milestone that reflects the Centre’s resilience and achievements despite numerous challenges. He highlighted the need for more skilled staff in clinical research to advance the Centre’s work and called for enhanced infrastructure to expand production capacity and create employment opportunities for Ghanaian.
Prof. Asase further emphasized the importance of plant-based medicine, noting that many modern pharmaceuticals are derived from plants. He urged the public to prioritize traditional plant medicine as part of Ghana’s healthcare system, stressing its potential to boost economic growth while reducing the nation’s dependence on imported drugs. He also appealed to government to increase investment in plant medicine research.
The Chief of Okyekyerekuko, Kwame Sakyi Ababio II, Abotakyhene and Asesawhene of Akuapem Traditional Area, commended CPMR on its 50 years of service and pledged his continuous support to help the Centre save more lives.
Representing the Ministry of Health, the Director for Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Dr. Mrs. Anastasia Serichi, lauded the Centre’s dedication to herbal medicine research across Ghana. She encouraged CPMR to strengthen collaborations and assured the Ministry’s commitment to developing an ultra-modern research centre to boost their capacity, with hopes of establishing more branches nationwide.
The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency, Samuel Awuku, also pledged his unwavering support to the Centre, promising to champion international collaborations to further enhance its growth and global recognition.
As CPMR embarks on its next chapter, stakeholders agree that the unveiling of the new logo and the golden jubilee celebration mark only the beginning of a greater future in advancing plant medicine research in Ghana.
