La Dade-Kotopon MCE Urges Youth to Embrace Farming as GAYO Distributes Organic Compost under Zero Waste Accra Project

Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly
Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, has called on Ghanaian youth to embrace farming as a sustainable livelihood and a productive alternative to idleness. He made the appeal while joining the Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) to distribute organic compost to farmers within the municipality.
Accompanied by his team of coordinators, Hon. Anyetei emphasized the urgent need for young people to take advantage of available land in La to contribute to food security, reduce unemployment, and help lower crime rates in the country.
“There is more land available for farming in La, and I encourage the youth to take it seriously. Farming is a productive path for both personal growth and national development,” he stated.
The MCE commended GAYO for its innovative environmental initiatives, particularly the Zero Waste Accra Project, which seeks to divert organic waste from landfills, dumpsites, and burning hotspots for composting. This intervention not only provides farmers with nutrient-rich compost but also helps reduce methane emissions, improve air quality, and advance Ghana’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.
Hon. Anyetei further encouraged other organizations across Ghana to replicate GAYO’s efforts in order to drive sustainable development, protect the environment, and create economic opportunities for communities.
