As part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana extended a humanitarian visit to Nigerian inmates at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
The visit, led by Ambassador Moses Ifedayo Adeoye, the Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria to Ghana, aimed to assess the welfare and well-being of Nigerian citizens serving sentences in Ghana.
Speaking during the engagement, Ambassador Ifedayo expressed the Federal Government of Nigeria’s deep concern for its nationals in foreign correctional facilities. He thanked the Ghanaian authorities and management of the Nsawam Prison for granting him and his delegation access to interact with the inmates.
He encouraged the inmates to remain hopeful, resilient, and disciplined, emphasizing that their current circumstances do not define their future.
“Do not lose hope or allow your present condition to lead you into despair. Your lives still hold value, and your future remains important,” the Ambassador advised.
Ambassador Ifedayo Adeoye further reassured the inmates that the High Commission’s concern would not end with a single visit. He pledged a continued engagement and monitoring of their welfare to ensure they are treated with dignity and fairness.
He concluded by urging the inmates to exhibit good conduct and maintain a positive attitude, noting that such behavior could influence future reviews of their cases.
“We will continue to do our best to offer institutional support and stay connected with you,” he added.
