Young Adult Fellowship (YAF) Holds 2nd Edition of Women’s Empowerment Conference
The Young Adult Fellowship (YAF) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has successfully organized the 2nd edition of its annual YAF Women’s Conference, bringing together over 100 women to be empowered in financial management, legal awareness, and personal development.
The event, held in October, coincided with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, providing a dual platform for financial empowerment and health education among women within the 30–40 age bracket—representing the YAF demographic.
The conference was graced by distinguished personalities including Mr. Kwadwo Ofori Twumasi, Rev. Isaac Brown (District Minister, PCG), Catechist Abraham Okofio Anum-Quaye (District CLAN Chairperson), Mrs. Abigail Offei (National YAF Organiser), Sumaila Ibrahim (Presbytery YAF President), Mrs. Augustina Agbe (Immediate Past District President), and Mr. John Kofi Boakye (District President), among others.
Speaking to the media, Mrs. Barbara Ackonor, Conference Convener and District Women’s Commissioner, emphasized that the aim of the event was to unite women under one platform for empowerment across key areas, financial, legal, and social.
“The conference is organized annually to promote the growth and development of women within the church, home, and community,” Mrs. Ackonor noted. “This year’s focus was on financial literacy—especially helping women prepare for retirement and understand sustainable ways to manage their finances.”
She further highlighted that October was chosen for the program to align with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, serving as an opportunity to educate participants on preventive health practices.
Adding her voice, Madam Victoria Aligboh, one of the keynote speakers, underscored the importance of financial education for women.
“Statistics show that women live longer than men globally, but that should not mean living longer in poverty,” she remarked. “Financial empowerment for women is not about competing with men, but complementing them in building stronger families and communities.”
She urged men to support women’s financial independence and applauded the organizers for their forward-thinking initiative.
One of the participants also shared her excitement, expressing gratitude for the financial insights gained and pledging to extend the knowledge to other women in her community.
The Young Adult Fellowship continues to affirm its commitment to empowering women through education, mentorship, and community-driven initiatives, promoting both spiritual and socio-economic growth within the Presbyterian Church and beyond.
