‎CPA Launches "Safe Diaper" Campaign at Accra Regional Hospital .

In a major move to protect infant health, the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) has intensified its crackdown on the influx of counterfeit baby products in the country.

The agency recently sensitized over 400 nursing mothers at the Pediatric Department of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) on how to identify and avoid fake, substandard diapers flooding the Ghanaian market.

‎The event forms part of the CPA's year-long nationwide campaign themed "Safe Diaper for Ghanaian Children," an initiative heavily supported by local software partners to track and report counterfeit goods.

‎The threat of substandard baby products has reached a critical level. Speaking to the press, Nana Prempeh Okogyeabour Aduhene, the CPA’s Chief Executive Director in Charge of Mediation and Arbitration, revealed the massive scale of the ongoing enforcement.

‎"For the past one year, the CPA, in close collaboration with the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has successfully removed about 2 million substandard diapers from the Ghanaian market," Aduhene stated.

‎He emphasized that the CPA task force felt an urgent need to bring this education directly to the most vulnerable group: nursing mothers.

Substandard diapers often contain harmful chemical residues, poor absorbent materials, and non-breathable plastics that cause severe skin rashes, infections, and long-term health complications for infants.

‎Expanding the Education Nationwide

‎The sensitization drive at the Accra Regional Hospital was met with immense relief and gratitude from the mothers, who received in-depth, practical training on distinguishing certified, FDA-approved diapers from cheap, hazardous counterfeits.

‎ADUHENE promised that Accra Regional Hospital is just the beginning. The CPA plans to aggressively scale up the campaign to other major healthcare facilities, including:

‎Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)

‎Tema General Hospital

‎37 Military Hospital

‎"Our goal is to ensure that no nursing mother is left behind in this critical education," he added.

‎A Call for Stricter Border Control

‎While public education is vital, the CPA boss noted that stopping the problem at the source is equally critical.

He issued a strong appeal to the Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division) and security agencies manned at Ghana's borders to exercise extreme vigilance against smuggling networks importing these illicit goods.

‎Aduhene reaffirmed the CPA's commitment to its continuous partnership with the FDA to totally eradicate bad diapers from the system.

He concluded with a vital piece of advice for parents: Always check for FDA certification numbers and purchase baby products from verified, reputable vendors.
