In a powerful demonstration of community support, the Ghana International Women’s Club (GIWC) has presented a substantial donation of essential medical, sanitary, and mobility supplies to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The timely intervention comes at a critical juncture for the country’s premier mental health facility, which is currently grappling with severe infrastructure and budgetary challenges.

‎A Core Mandate of Giving

‎Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the President of the GIWC, Mrs. Sunita Moolchandani, emphasized that uplifting the less privileged across Ghana remains the foundational mandate of the organization.

‎"We recognized the urgent need to extend our helping hands to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital," Mrs. Moolchandani stated. "This donation is highly timely, arriving at a moment when the hospital requires this support the most."

‎The comprehensive list of donated items includes:

‎Mobility Aids: 4 brand-new wheelchairs

‎Sanitary & Hygiene Products: Adult diapers, sanitary products, liquid soap, and traditional alata soaps

‎Maintenance Supplies: Disinfectants, tissues, brooms, and other essential cleaning utilities

‎Mrs. Moolchandani was accompanied by GIWC Vice President Mrs. Samilia Kanj and Public Relations Officer Mrs. Mary Bruce. The leadership team expressed profound joy at the success of the initiative, promising that the club’s philanthropic efforts will only expand in the future. "Our best is yet to come," they noted collectively.

‎Hospital Management Pleaded for Infrastructure Support

‎Receiving the items on behalf of the institution, the Director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Kwadwo Marfo Obeng, expressed deep gratitude to the GIWC. He revealed that the donation alleviates an immense financial burden on the hospital's heavily strained budget.

‎According to Dr. Obeng, the facility is currently redirecting massive financial resources toward daily patient upkeep, leaving little room to address critical structural failures.

‎"This donation has come at a very critical time," Dr. Obeng explained. "With the cost of patient care skyrocketing, these supplies will allow us to redirect our focus and funds toward other severely neglected areas, such as our clothing supply, unpaid medical bills, and our 120-year-old infrastructure, which is actively falling apart."

‎While thanking the GIWC for their generosity, Dr. Obeng used the platform to issue an urgent appeal to corporate bodies, NGOs, and the general public. He stressed that sustained external support is vital if the hospital is to continue rendering maximum, dignified psychiatric care to its patients.
