MLGCRA Holds Capacity Building Workshop for Registrars of National and Regional Houses of Chiefs

Accra, Ghana* – The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, MLGCRA, has organized a capacity building program for Registrars of the National and Regional Houses of Chiefs. 




The initiative is aimed at equipping registrars with the requisite knowledge and skills to improve the administration of traditional justice and enhance service delivery within the chieftaincy institution.


Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the program, the Deputy Minister for MLGCRA, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, said building the capacity of registrars is critical to addressing traditional matters effectively.

“In tackling traditional issues, there is the need to refresh and deepen their knowledge in their specialized areas,” Hon. Sowah stated. “The goal is for them to acquire the needed expertise so that when they return to their stations, they will be able to deliver their best. This will ensure that most cases are resolved at the Regional House of Chiefs level, without the need to proceed to the High Court or Supreme Court.”


The Deputy Minister further noted that the Ministry is also looking at improving the welfare of both administrative staff and traditional authorities. 



“It is not only about capacity building. We are also considering how to improve salaries so that staff and traditional authorities are motivated and satisfied with their services,” she added.


Hon. Sowah described the approach as a “two-pronged strategy” that addresses both traditional and administrative aspects of chieftaincy governance.




She concluded by expressing optimism that the training will translate into improved performance at the Regional Houses of Chiefs across the country.


The workshop forms part of MLGCRA’s broader efforts to modernize the chieftaincy institution, promote alternative dispute resolution, and strengthen traditional governance structures in line with national development goals.
