Adenta Municipal Education Hosts Inaugural Guidance and Counseling Week Celebration
The Adenta Municipal Education Directorate celebrated its first Guidance and Counseling Week with a range of activities under the theme, “Unlocking Potentials Through Guidance Services to Shape Social Behaviour and Values for a Brighter Future.”
The week-long event, which began with an official launch and a mental health talk, highlighted the importance of counseling in educational settings, promoting a safe, supportive school environment.

Madam Gifty Mussey, Director of Education for Adenta, expressed her satisfaction with the event’s success, saying, “I’m happy that this has become a reality, because counseling is an integral part of our educational system. As a director, I encourage our school counselors to come together and organize a Counseling Week celebration.”
Throughout the week, students participated in a debate, environmental clean-up, and social activities to strengthen school spirit and reinforce positive values.

Addressing the media, Hannah Araba Acquah, Adenta’s Guidance and Counseling Coordinator, emphasized the need for collaborative efforts from parents and the community. “Our goal is to create a safe space in schools, where learners feel supported amidst their challenges. However, we often face challenges with parental involvement,” Acquah said, urging parents to actively participate in their children’s educational journey.

Guest Speaker Augustina Dadebo., a counselor from the University of Professional Studies, Accra, highlighted the importance of infrastructure to support counseling services, advocating for dedicated spaces for counselors. “Counseling requires privacy, but many of our schools lack offices for counselors. I urge stakeholders and the government to consider these needs when developing educational facilities,” she stated.
The event served as a call for greater resources, awareness, and support for guidance and counseling in Ghanaian schools to foster a brighter future for students.
