‎Over 2,000 Students of St. John Grammar School Enlightened on the Role of the United Nations During Its 80th Anniversary Celebration ‎

In a remarkable educational event, over 2,000 students of St. John Grammar School in Accra gathered to learn about the importance of the United Nations and its global impact as part of the UN’s 80th anniversary celebrations.



‎The event was organized by Young Visionary Leaders Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana CSOs Platform on SDG 4 (Quality Education), to promote awareness of the United Nations’ mission and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among young people.



‎Speaking to the media, Mr. Joseph Tettey Afangbe, Executive Director of Young Visionary Leaders Ghana and Convener of the Ghana CSOs Platform on SDG 4, explained that the gathering aimed to observe the global UN 80th anniversary while empowering students to become future leaders.

‎“Our mission is to make schools an enabling environment where students can learn, grow, and lead. CSOs are working together to promote inclusivity and quality education, ensuring every young person has the opportunity to reach their potential,” Mr. Afangbe stated.


‎He emphasized that education remains the strongest tool in securing Ghana’s future against social vices and criminality. Mr. Afangbe also urged the government to invest more in educational policies that will empower young leaders and build a prosperous nation.


‎Adding her remarks, Mrs. Cynthia Pratt, the National Information Officer for the United Nations, expressed her excitement about the collaboration with the CSOs.



‎“We are proud to partner with local organizations to reach students and explain the importance of the United Nations, especially as we celebrate our 80th anniversary. It’s vital that the youth understand the UN’s role in fostering peace, development, and sustainability,” Mrs. Pratt noted.


‎She added that the UN looks forward to organizing similar programs across Ghana to ensure young people are well-informed about global development issues and their role in achieving the SDGs.



‎Some of the students expressed their gratitude to the United Nations and the CSOs for organizing such an enlightening and inspiring program, describing it as an eye-opener that broadened their understanding of global cooperation and sustainable development.
