Hon. Kwame Owusu Danso Calls for Urgent Infrastructure Support for Akim Asafo SHS
Hon. Kwame Owusu Danso has appealed to the Ministry of Education and relevant government authorities to urgently address pressing infrastructure challenges facing Akim Asafo Senior High School at Apedwa in the Eastern Region, particularly the need for completed dormitory facilities and additional classroom blocks.
He made this call while speaking at the school’s SRC Week celebration, where he attended as a representative of the Old Students Association. Hon. Owusu Danso, who served as the Vice Presidential Candidate to Alan Kyerematen, flag bearer of the Movement for Change in the 2024 general election, stressed the importance of improving learning conditions to match Ghana’s ongoing educational expansion drive.
According to him, the dormitory project at the school was initiated during the administration of the late President John Evans Atta Mills but was left uncompleted. He therefore urged the current government to revisit and complete the project to help ease accommodation pressure on students.
He emphasized that equitable access to quality education requires balanced infrastructure development across all schools, adding that no institution should be left behind in the national education agenda. He noted that improving facilities at Akim Asafo SHS would help create a more supportive academic environment for students.
Hon. Owusu Danso also called on alumni of the school to actively support ongoing development efforts through contributions and partnerships aimed at upgrading facilities.
The Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration, Rev. Franklin Atsu, also highlighted several challenges confronting the school, including stalled boys’ and girls’ dormitory projects, inadequate classrooms, lack of bread-making machines for vocational training, and other critical resource gaps. He revealed that management has submitted multiple requests to the Ghana Education Service headquarters but is yet to receive an official response.
Rev. Atsu advised students to remain focused and make the most of available educational opportunities despite the constraints, encouraging them to stay committed to their academic goals and future aspirations.
